Expand Your Knowledge
Expand your knowledge by reading books, meeting people and experiencing life.
None of us know everything. We all have areas that we either know we “don’t know” or we don’t even realize exists.
We expand our area of knowledge by learning from personal experience, research, or direct transfers from others.
And, we can expand other’s knowledge by sharing what we know.
Our circle of knowledge represents all of the information in our own minds, but there is so much more in the universe… Everything that is known everywhere by everyone.
There is information that you know, and you know to be true. Some examples could be your name, your birthdate, and your family.
Then there is that information that you know that you know nothing about. You know these things are there, but you really don’t know anything about them. Some examples might be rocket science or quantum physics.
All of the rest of the information out there is information that we don’t know, and in many cases, we don’t even know that we don’t know. We are “unconsciously incompetent” in these areas. It doesn’t mean that the information doesn’t exist, it just means that we are currently unaware of its existence.
As a result, this information is currently sitting in our “blind spot.” Your “blind spot” is just like when you’re driving in your car and you look in the rearview mirror and nothing is there. Then you turn your head and see a car , but it was there the entire time. You just couldn’t see it until you viewed it from a new perspective.
Changing Your Perspective
We’ve all seen these FedEx trucks and vans, but have you noticed anything different about their logo?
If you focus in on the Ex in the logo you’ll notice an arrow. This forward arrow has always been there, but you may have never noticed. Now that your perspective has changed, you’ll always be able to see it.
3 Ways to Expand Your Knowledge
- Places you go (Personal Experiences)
- Books you read (Personal Study)
- People you meet (Transferred Knowledge)
There are three ways to expand what you know. The first is the experiences you have by the places you go. The second is the personal education you get by the books you read. The final way is by transferring knowledge by talking to the people you meet in life. This is where I come in.
The good news is that some of what I “now that I know” is currently sitting in your blind spot. So, by sharing what I know, it will help you to expand your knowledge.
Relating this to Family and Finance, Life is a journey. Your personal journey through life will encounter many ups and downs. Expand your knowledge, so you are ready to respond when you run into roadblocks or obstacles.
